A Touch of the Brush
Paintings by Gaye Boltong
|Gaye was born in
Malaysia but has lived in Melbourne, Australia for most of her adult life.
She never thought she could paint until she attempted to paint kangaroos
on her Kombi van in readiness to travel around the world in it. During her
overland trip through Asia, Middle East, Europe and Africa, she was amazed
and pleased to note that despite language barriers and cultural differences,
kids through to adults recognized 'Skippy, the Bush Kangaroo' with her drawings.
Gaye, a teacher, has spent over 27 years working and travelling through Asia and many of her artworks reflect this influence. She is now retired and has moved back to Melbourne to enjoy the company of her family and friends, her garden and to pursue her love of painting.
To date, Gaye has travelled to 74 different countries and usually takes her painting gear to capture some inspiring moments and awesome landmarks. She loves attending painting holidays because she can meet and paint with like minded people and learn some new techniques from her peers. She has been to France, Spain and Italy, painting, enjoying the local life and meeting different people.
Gaye, having spent a lot of time in Bali, is planning to run painting holidays there. This way she can bring together interested artists and introduce them to a different culture and to be part of the life of a Balinese village or 'Banjar'. The 'colours of Asia' are different to the 'colours of Australia or Europe' - the intense sunshine and the vivid greens bring a new perspective into paintings not to mention the exciting and exotic location. Look out for new developments in this adventure!!!
As part of the Sunbury Art Society and Melton U3A, she enjoys the rapport with her fellow artists. Since moving back to Melbourne, Gaye has exhibited her works at many local art shows including Sunbury, Woodend, Drysdale, Bacchus Marsh and Ballan and many of her paintings are in private collections in Europe, Asia and Australia. Gaye has held a successful exhibition of her works at the Hilton Melbourne Airport and more recently held her first solo exhibition on 8th July 2011 at the Park Royal Hotel at the Melbourne Airport. This exhibition showcased her travels to many countries and is aptly called "Travels with my Paint Box".
